BBQ Sets - Everything You Need To Know To Get The Best From Your BBQ
According to this second page of the Book Of BBQ all the faithful need toys, sorry tools, to further their enjoyment as well as increase the quality of the results of their BBQ worship.
I've certainly had a great time putting all this information together as there's a number of items that I didn't have and could suddenly justify getting them.
Now, don't take any of the three classifications as gospel - everybody does different things and does them differently. If I've listed an item under the Nice To Have section but you know you need it - go and buy it !
For example, while I consider my marinade injectors as an essential item however, if you do not BBQ many large cuts of meat, then that will not be an essential item to you.

Miscellaneous & Just For Fun - BBQ Tools
Herb Grilling Grid
These are a simple device of two mesh grids hinged on one side. You put your favaourite herbs in between the two grids and then close and lock them together. You then place this on the grill and proceed to cook your meat on top, infusing it with the flavour of the herbs as you go.
Great idea, but in practice they don't really work unless you're cooking over a very low heat as the herbs burn too quickly and have little or no effect in flavouring the meat.
If you want to flavour your meat, stick with the tried and true practices of brining, marinating, rubbing, or basting - you'll get a much better result.
Grilling Planks
While we don't currently see much of these in Australia, they are very popular in many other parts of the world, particularly the USA.
Grilling on planks gives a great, smoky flavor to your meat and vegetables. As the plank is soaked in liquid (water, beer, wine, cider, juices) before use it also keeps your food very moist during cooking. This really is a great way to cook, particularly for seafood and steaks.
They do eventually die (crumble and break up) however I maximise my value for money by then using the pieces for making smoke in my BBQ.
Branding Iron
This one is all for fun. You can get them made up to your required word or graphic, or kits are available for making you own words - much as you can for a rubber ink stamper.
I have to admit that I have never bothered however, this could be a case of "I don't know what I'm missing".
Utility Belt
As with the branding iron, I have to admit I've never had one of these however, I'll be up front and say I really don't see the point.
All my BBQ tools live with my BBQ - I've never yet been called out to an emergency where I need to BBQ on the roof, or up a tree.
Maybe they're useful in competitive BBQ. There is no competitive circuit for BBQ in Australia, unlike the USA, so maybe that's where they come into they're own.
